Arsenal Set Women’s Super League Attendance Record

  • More than 47,000 fans packed The Emirates on Saturday — a Women’s Super League record.
  • The news comes less than two months after multiple other women’s soccer attendance records.

Yet another European women’s soccer contest has set an in-person attendance record, continuing to demonstrate the growing popularity of the sport.

A total of 47,367 fans watched Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Emirates Stadium on Saturday — almost 10,000 more than the previous record.

In total, the team sold more than 53,000 tickets.

  • The record comes just a month-and-a-half after the Women’s Euro 2022 final set a record on its own, with upwards of 87,000 fans in attendance — more than any men’s or women’s Euro matchup.
  • In mid-August, the Barcelona women set a world record for women’s soccer attendance, drawing 91,648 fans at a Champions League match against VfL Wolfsburg.

“The atmosphere at The Emirates was absolutely incredible, and seeing 47,367 fans in the stadium shows just how much the women’s game has grown,” the English FA director for women’s soccer, Kelly Simmons, reportedly said. “I am delighted that we have seen such big interest in the league since the start of the season, which is great credit to the clubs.”

As for future matches, officials expect attendance to continue to grow. “I hope this momentum can continue throughout the whole campaign,” Simmons added.
